PRACTICAL SKILLS

Every participant in the My Stepping Stones program will develop their own Individualized Service Plan (ISP).  Each week they will have structured time with our staff to help them stay on track with what is detailed in their ISP.  A few of the possible practical skills to be included in the ISP are financial management, long range thinking and planning, parenting children, interpersonal skills and conflict resolution, English proficiency and professional counseling (if needed)The skills to focus on will depend on the participant.   Each one will be coached to and expected to make appropriate life choices.  This, and not mere conformity to external pressure, will be the basis of a participant’s life change.  They will each be held accountable for the consequences of their own choices.

In addition to the ISP and structured time with our staff, each participant will be expected to hold a part-time job – depending on their school and study schedule.  (My Stepping Stones subsidizes some – but not all – of their daily expenses.  The point of the program is to help each participant become capable of earning a wage that will pay ALL of their own expenses.)
