WHAT SETS US APART?

My Stepping Stones does not help a participant find just another minimum-wage job.  We help participants get qualified for jobs that will support a family on a single income.

My Stepping Stones does not help solve short-term crises.  We provide a permanent solution – an individualized path out of poverty that changes the multigenerational trajectory of an impoverished family’s future.

My Stepping Stones does not excuse a person from responsibility for their own actions – past or present.  We teach the importance and relevance of personal choices – both good and bad.  Each person DOES have the ability to determine his/her own path in life.

My Stepping Stones does not settle for just economic improvement.  We believe that spiritual regeneration is necessary to experience a truly meaningful existence.

My Stepping Stones does not teach religion.  We invite people into a dynamic, living and growing relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.

My Stepping Stones does not use rules and compliance to attempt to change behavior.  We believe that what is in the heart will come out in speech and action.  Real, permanent change must happen on the inside – in the heart – and then changes in speech and behavior will naturally result.

My Stepping Stones does not encourage a solitary existence.  We teach cooperation and helping one another in the Body of Christ – our spiritual family.

My Stepping Stones does not give hand-outs.  Participants have to earn their own success.

My Stepping Stones does not impose external goals on a participant.  We teach each individual how to set their own goals – both small and large – and how to work systematically through small goals to achieve one’s own larger goals.

My Stepping Stones does not consider completion of a program to be an end in itself.  Our program is goal-oriented, with the program itself being modified as needed to achieve the desired goal.

My Stepping Stones minimizes external locus.  The program is participant-driven – accomplishing that which the participant him/herself desires to achieve.

My Stepping Stones does not drop graduates abruptly “into the real world.”  We require increasing responsibility throughout the program to prepare participants so that after graduation it is only a small step from program-participant to independent-family.

My Stepping Stones does not use a one-size-fits-all approach.  Each participant’s service plan is individualized to fit his/her needs and interests.

The My Stepping Stones program is not a singular, giant curriculum.  Success is incrementally achieved – one stepping stone at a time.
